The city of Mendoza is located at the foot of the Andes mountain range, the highest of America. In its 54 km2, the financial, commercial, cultural and administrative activities are concentrated.
The capital city has 131,927 inhabitants and together with the departments of Las Heras, Luján, Maipú and Guaymallén constitute the Metopolitan area. This urban area, with a population of a million inhabitants is the fourth most important conglomerate within the country and the most relevant in the Cuyo region (consisting of the provinces of San Juan, San Luis and Mendoza)
Mendoza has a rich cultural life and events of touristic interest. For example, the Harvest Festival is one of Mendoza´s most important celebrations offered to wine. Museums of different kinds, cinemas, theaters, art galleries, artisan expositions are part of the cultural offer of the city. For the leisure time, there are different alternatives, for example, the General San Martín Park, the Central Park, the bars on Aristides Villanueva St. A wide variety of gastronomic offering is prepared to satisfy different necessities that go from sophisticated restaurants located in wineries to fast food or regional dishes. Mendoza has fashionable shopping zones, like Sarmiento pedestrian area, Mendoza Plaza Shopping Centre, Palmares Open Mall, and the down town area.
Mendoza is the result of laborious hands that turned the desert into the “forest – city” that today is. Our ancestors did not fight against nature; they just use the geographic accidents to built irrigation canal to supply the aridity of these lands. Thanks to the first inhabitants Mendoza has grown in the shades of trees, where the concern about protecting vegetation and keeping parks, squares and streets clean is part of our idiosyncrasy.
