During the grape harvest seasons, there is a calendar full of cultural activities, including harvest and folk festivals in each counties of the province. Since January, Mendoza prepares itself to celebrate the Vintage Festivals, witch takes places the first Saturday of March. Born as the popular celebration for the harvest, this festival goes back to the immigrant times, who used to celebrate the end of their labour and wine making with dances and songs, giving thanks for the Mother Nature´s kindness. In that opportunity, the prettiest woman was chosen as the national Queen of the Vintage and crowned with wine leaves and grape clusters. This simple homage was the inspiring source for the current celebration that Mendoza revives every year. The Vintage Festival is the country major event since 1936. Nowadays, the Greek Theatre Frank Romero Day, located in the San Martin Park, is where the celebration takes place year after year. Over there, in an imposing show of great choreographic display, more than 800 artists give their performance in an impressive array of light and sound, on a 130 meters stage. More than 30.000 spectators among locals and visitors from all over the world can enjoy this magnificent show that ends with the election and crown of the National Queen, who will represent the province for one year. A ton and a half of fireworks frame the spectacle at the end of the election.
